Opt In Form | BUILD YOUR LIST

Create an Opt In Form

The FIRST IMPORTANT THING you need to do after you set up a blog is to optimize your website for search engines (SEO) to get traffic to your site.

(NOTE: If you haven’t yet set up a money-making blog with WordPress, or if you need guidance on how to make it more effective, check out WordPress Setup – Ten Steps to Blogging Profits.)

The SECOND IMPORTANT THING, is to begin to build a list of subscribers to your WordPress blog and communicate with them using a newsletter and broadcasts (one time announcements).

Communicating with your visitors by email is an important step if you want repeat visitors to your site or if you want to use your site to make extra money online. If you haven’t heard it yet, you will: “The money is in the list!”

But should you buy, rent or build an email list? Well, when you’re starting out it depends on if you want a big list or an effective one. The easy road is not always the one that brings the best results. The problem with buying or renting an email list is that the people on that list don’t know you. When they receive your email, they will most likely delete it without bothering to open it. Email lists you don’t build rarely bring the desired results.

That is why it is so beneficial to build your own email opt in list by putting an opt in form on your blog.* Email opt in, or opt-in or optin, just means that someone has chosen to receive your newsletter or other emails you send. Double opt in means they confirm that yes, they really did mean to request your newsletter. Spamming people with email is against the law and will hurt your business in the long run! Double optin is the method I recommend if you want to build the most effective list possible. That way you know you’re sharing your thoughts with people who are genuinely interested and will more likely listen to your advice. Double opt-in is also the industry standard and for good reason. Yes, creating a list from scratch is the more difficult and time-consuming solution, but you can make the process faster with some good email marketing tools. There are 2 basic steps you need to take to get started with email marketing:

STEP 1 – Set up an Autoresponder

To communicate with an email opt in list (your subscribers), you’ll want to set up an autoresponder to help you automate the process. Click here to read my advice on autoresponders and find out why I recommend Aweber.

STEP 2 – Get Subscribers

To make building your list easier and quicker, you need to add to your blog a WordPress plugin that will create at least one opt in form. This will enable visitors to subscribe to your newsletter. By using an email opt in plugin subscribing visitors are added to an email list. You can then build a relationship with those subscribers, give them free advice and ask them to buy the products you recommend. The more loyal your readers, the more effective your communication efforts will be.

I have reviewed several WordPress plugins which allow you to create an opt in form.
